History of the Gunner Shaw
Named in Memory of “Gunner” Shaw, a well-known and respected BC runner who passed away in 1984 at the age of 39 due to a car accident, the annual cross country race has been a staple on the provincial cross country calendar for years. We look forward to keeping the proud tradition of this traditional-style cross country meet alive for many years to come.
Part of The Lower Mainland Cross Country Series
The Gunner Shaw Memorial is part of the Lower Mainland Cross Country Series, which provides an opportunity to compete locally in a number of cross country races throughout the fall/winter season. The Open/Masters Series consists of 7 races while the Youth Series (Junior Development/U16) Series consists of 5. The series is held from September to December and all races are sanctioned by BC Athletics.
