Canadian Legion Success for TBirds - De Visser strikes gold!

Several Thunderbirds were in action at the Canadian Legion Midget and Youth Championships in Langley. The highlight of the weekend was Andrew De Visser jumping 6.81m to claim gold in the U18 boys long jump. Other athletes competing in the U18 boys division were Ethan Strome in the 300m hurdles (5th in 39.49), Jacob Cutts in the javelin (6th in 51.02m), Max Trummer in the 800m (7th in 1:56.75), and Matthew Chan in the 100m (10th in 11.48). The Thunderbirds U18 4 x 100m relay team (Matthew Chan, Andrew De Visser, Ahmad Nizamani, Jacob Cutts) sprinted home in 5th position with a time of 44.30. In the U16 boys division, Quinn Litherland placed 14th in the 300m with a time of 38.35.

In the girls U18 division, Sophie Pauls finished 6th in the high jump with a leap of 1.55m. Other athletes competing in the U18 girls division were Joyce Lin in the long jump (7th in 5.14m) and triple jump (8th in 10.44m), Chantel Van Hombeeck in the 100m (14th in 13.20), and Sophie Dodd in the 800m (16th in 2:21.01). The Thunderbirds U18 4 x 100m relay team (Joyce Lin, Sophie Pauls, Chantel Van Hombeeck, Michelle Yee) finished 7th in 53.31. Our U18 4 x 400m relay team (Michelle Yee, Madison Wong, Chantel Van Hombeeck, Sophie Dodd) also placed 7th in 4:06.44. In the U16 girls category, Gabriela Aquilini placed 4th in the U16 girls high jump with a jump of 1.58m and Calli Charlton contested the 2000m (12th in 6:47.32) and 1200m (3:48.84). Our U16 girls 4 x 100m relay team (Madeleine Cheng, Gabriela Aquilini, Hayley Madden, Katherine Lucas) finished 4th in 53.31.
