The Vancouver Thunderbirds moved into their second week of racing this past weekend with meets at Bear Creek Park and Jericho Beach (Vancouver Spirit Run).
Senior Thunderbirds Sandra Kilmartin and Braeden Charlton were victorious in the 8km events at the Vancouver Spirit Run, running 31:04 and 27:41 respectfully, highlighting the club’s weekend results.
JD Thunderbirds (some running for their schools) performed well in some small fields on Saturday, September 21 at Bear Creek Park. Harris Boomer notching up his second win of the season, Micah Simmons and Kaiya Bradley gathering second places, and Kate Logan and Pierce Simmons earning third place finishes in their respective races. Camron Haime came close to making it three thirds, but got nicked at the line to take fourth place. At the better attended Spirit Run on Sunday, September 22, Thunderbird JDs sloshed through wet conditions to record some excellent results. Highlights of the day was placing three runners in the top 4 (Francesco and Gianluca taking 1st and 4th, separated by Christopher Guite in second); taking the first two spots with Elijah Clarke grabbing the win from Harris Boomer; Laerke Peterson having a strong run to take second; and Taylor De Witt and Gabriella Barton earning third place finishes. TBIRDS showed their depth taking 6th (Miller Dabbs), 7th (Camron Haime) and 11th (Griffin Cole). Benjamin Smith showed that he is improving and newbies Ellie Davison, Simon McCutcheon and Henry Lazare all ran well in their first races.
