This past weekend, the TBIRD JD athletes finished their 2019 season at the BC JD Championships, held in South Surrey. The team came away with 17 individual gold medals, 18 individual silver medals, 12 individual bronze medals and a total of 109 top 8 finishes. In addition, TBird runners teamed up to earn 3 first and 4 second place relays medals. Way to go young TBIRDS!!
Out sprinters were in good form. In the 60m sprint, Elias Leacock led home all runners with Prabdeep Brar in third and brother Japender Brar in 8th. Victoria Cheung also earned top honours. In the 100m Elias Leacock again won to complete the sprint double, Marylou Djida and Acheleke Tateh took silver and Jasleen Nagra (running injured) took bronze. Szilard Puddoford, Akasha Chamberland, Ava Eichhorst, Michael Lam, Roman Yeterian, Iyimi Fagbamiye, and Victoria all making the finals of the 100m. The 200m saw Marylou win a second silver and Szilard, Roman Yeterian, Mbunya Tateh, Ava Eichorst and Akasha Chamberland al make the top 8. Luc Prineau, Akasha, Nyla Tukker and Anna Kruk all ran well to finish top 8 in the 300m.
Tbirds also had a strong showing in the distance events, wins coming from Madeliene Blesch (1000m), Prabdeep Brar (800m RW) and Manjot Nagra (800m RW); silver from Prabdeep (600m), Elijah Clarke (600m), Chloe Symon (800m), and Francesco Hawkey and Elijah (1000m), Japinder Brar (800m RW) and Camron Haine (1200m). Michael Lam (600m), Kate Logan (800m), Luc Primeau (800m), and Kate Logan (1200m). Madeliene Blesch, Franceso and Gianlua Hawkey (600m); Nyla Tukker, Kai Martland and Maclean Carlson (800m); Michael Lam, Gianluca, and Taylor De Witt (1000m); and kate Logan and Kai Martland (1200m) all had top 8 finishes. Our hurdlers came away with 3 first places (Acheleke, Szilard and Iyimi), a second (Pierce Simmons), and ten additional finalists.
Our high jumpers came away with four gold medals (Acheleke, Griffen Cole, Ava Eichhorst, and Japinder Brar), a second (Allan Crawford), and two thirds (Elisse Szucs and Maclean Carlson); anadditional nine jumpers finishing in the top 8. Elisse led the way in long jump with a first place finish; Prbdeep Brar taking a 3rd and another nine finishing top 8. Jasleen Nagra won the triple Jump with Sophia Keng in 6th.
Finally, our throwers took three first places (Pierce in shot, Lilli Horlock in discus, and Griffen Cole in Javelin); 6 2nd places (Natalie Franke in shot, Roman Yeterian in both Shot and Discus, Lilli Horlock, Jessica Mills and Francesco Hawkey in Javelin), and two 3rd places (Victoria Cheung in shot and Natalie in discus). A further 11 athletes made top 8; Franscesco (shot), Natalie (javelin), and Luc Primeau just missing out on podium finishes.
