18 JD athletes took part in this past weekend’s BC JD Pentathlon Championships held in Maple Ridge.
The Thunderbird athletes competed with focus and tenacity and were rewarded with: two golds, two silver, onr bronze, two fourth and five fifth place finishes. In total sixteen, Thunderbird athletes cracked the top 8!
Maclean Carlson led from start to finish and ended with a very strong 800m performance to win the 12 year old boys division. He was followed home by Griffen Cole and Roman Yeterian in 4th and 5th place, respectively. Mbunya Tateh dominated the girls’ 12 year old division, clenching the overall victory, 52 points ahead of second place. Fellow Thunderbird teammates Chloe Symon, and and Kate Logan performed very well to earn 6th and 8th place respectively.
Acheleke Tateh and Szilard Puddiford each earned silver medals in the boys’ ten and eleven year old divisions; both narrowly missing out on first place finishes. Szilard was accompanied by Harris Boomer (5th), Elijah Clarke (10th), Nick Yang (14th) and Ben Smith (25th); all helping to show the strength of the team in this age group.
Victoria Cheung picked up bronze medal in the 9 year competition, with Madeleine chasing her points score, trailing by only 16 points of her teammate.
In the 10 year old girls division, Laerke Peterson missed fourth place by a mere 6 points and third by 24 points! Lilly Horlock competed well finishing 11th, and completing her first 600m race in the process. Jessica Mills hung tough to take 5th in the girls 11 year old group, and Anna Kruk was very close to a fourth place finish in the 13 year old group; just 19 points behind.
The Brar brothers, Japinder and Prabdeep, fought it out to take 4th and 5th places in the 11 year old division, Japinder coming out on top.
