Maya Baechler crossing the finish line in the 13 year old girl's 1200m in new Provincial Record!

JD stand out, Maya Baechler set a life time best, as well as the fastest time in BC history for 13 year old girls, over 1200m.  Baechler crossed the line in 3 minutes and 41 seconds to claim victory at Minoru Park, during the 50TH ANNUAL BC ELEMENTARY T&F CHAMPIONSHIPS on Friday, May 25th. Baechler took off three seconds from the previous record, set by Madison Heisterman (3:44).

Thunderbird teammate Elijah Clarke also won gold in the 10 year old boys 1000m, running 3:31.28, followed closely by TBird teammate, Harris Boomer (competing for his school team, Saint Georges) in 3:31.88 to take silver.

A Thunderbirds 1-2-3 finish swept the podium in the 11 year old girl's 1000m category from Gabi Barton (3:28.14), Ruby Forsyth (3:29.81), and Kate Logan (3:31.65).  Teammate Libby Dabbs (competing for WPGA) also earned silver, in the girl's 1200m event.

Kai Martland ran a strong 1200m to place second in his heat and fourth overall in the 12 year old boys 1200m (3:56.88). He earned another 4th place finish overall in the 800m, running 2:30.45.

In the field events, Thunderbirds were highlighted by Clarence Cheung, who reached a BC Awards standard, jumping 10.87m in the 13 year old boys triple jump to win gold, as well as 5.03m in the long jump (silver).

As the 50th annual BC Elementary School Championships targets school track and field teams, Thunderbirds were primarily represented by the athlete's respective Elementary Teams. A full list of results from the weekend can be found here: 50TH ANNUAL BC ELEMENTARY T&F CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congratulations to all Thunderbirds who competed! Our next meet will be the Jesse Bent Memorial in Coquitlam, on June 9th and 10th.
