Weekend Round-Up 4/12
There were a number of great Thunderbird performances this weekend across a number of different meets, with many athletes improving on personal best performances this early in the outdoor season.
At the Emilie Mondor Invitational at SFU Michael Aono ran the 400m 47.53 and set both a meet and stadium record!! His time was also a 1.3 second improvement on his personal best from last year. Kenneth Schultze also set a new meet record, clocking a time of 14.80 in the 110m hurdles. Other Thunderbirds in action were Gabrielle Aquilini with 1.60m in high jump and Rhiannon Evans 4:29.70 in the 1500m.
At the Grand Forza high school event at the Richmond oval, Matthew Chan placed second in the 50 m with a time of 6.20. This is a .24 improvement over last year's performance! His run helped the Lord Byng senior boys to a first place team finish. Michelle Yee ran a 7.06 in the same event, placing 3rd, and improving .07 over last year, helping her Lord Byng girls to a 3rd place finish. Great to see athletes improving over the year!
At the Sun Angel Classic at ASU Erica Digby opened her season with an impressive 4:20.52 run. WAC Canada athlete Amonn Nelson was also in action at the Sun Angel Classic with a strong 23.82 in the 200m.
Fellow WAC Canada athlete, javelin thrower Kyle Nielsen was competing at the Mesa Classic. Nielsen threw a solid 72.64, great throw for so early in the season.
