Thunderbirds Fly at Legions

The Thunderbirds were well-represented at the Legion Nationals held in Langley on the weekend of August 15, 16 and 17, 2014.

Some particular results were:

Quinn LITHERLAND raced to a 4th place finish in the finals of the U16 300m, with a time of 36.42. He also finished 8th in the 200m final with a time of 23.75 (after clocking 23.47 in the preliminaries).

Gabriela AQUILINI ended her season with a 5th place finish in the U18 HJ, equalling her personal best of 1m60 in the process.

Paul FISHER also finished in 5th place in the U16 Pentathlon, with a 9 centimetre PB in the HJ portion of the event: 1m62.

Sophie PAULS wound up finishing in 6th place in the U18 Heptathlon, winning the HJ portion with a jump of 1m60 and setting a couple of PBs on Day One.

Selena ZHU was 10th in the U18 Long Jump, with a best jump of 5m03.

Katherine LUCAS ended her season with a 16th place finish in the U18 200m (26.86) and a 25th placing in the 100m (13.48).

Hayley MADDEN finished 17th overall in the U18 400m, at 61.40.

Matthew CHAN ended what was for him a challenging, injury-riddled season with a 11.77 time in the U18 100m, good enough for 20th place.

The middle distance results included:

Calli Charlton raced to 9th in the youth 3000m with a personal best time of 10:23.27.

Ben Paetzel ran a personal best of 4:54.77 to finish 12th in the midget 1500m steeplechase.

Roberto Pelayo-Mazzone was the victim of bad luck in the midget 2000m. He got tripped up on the fourth lap and stepped on the rail. This caused him to fall and ended his race. Although this is unfortunate, Roberto had an excellent season and is ready for continued improvement next year.

Congrats to all on finishing off the season strong!
