Sophie Dodd (WPGA) and Ahmad Nizamani (Burnaby South) led the Thunderbirds at the BC High School Track and Field Championships this past weekend. Dodd won the Senior Girls 800m in a time of 2:14.45, while Nizamani won the Senior Boys Long Jump with a leap of 6.95m. Sophie had a busy weekend finishing 4th (58.48) in the Senior Girls 400m and the Triple Jump (10.36m) as well. Matthew So (St. Georges) ran an inspired race in the Senior Boys 800m running a personal best time of 1:54.35 to win silver.
Mitchell Tang (St. Georges) had a personal best performance in the Senior Boys Triple Jump with a jump of 13.00m finishing 4th. Ethane Strome (New Westminster), Max Trummer (Lord Byng), Emma Swaffield (York House) and Sajeda Win (Point Grey), finished 5th in their events. Ethan ran a personal best of 57.66 taking nearly 2 seconds off of his previous best. Strome also ran the 2nd leg on the New Westminster 4 x 100m Silver medal winning relay. Trummer followed closely behind Matt So in the 800m eclipsing his personal best with a time of 1:56.54. Swaffield running the 400m crossed the line in 58.73. Sajeda Win had a strong weekend making the final in both sprints. Win opened on Friday with a 7th place finish in the 200m following that with 5th place in the 100m.
Audrey Warner (WPGA) and Kieran Halliday (St. Georges) both had 8th place finishes. Warner ran a personal best 10:28.79 in the 3000m, while Halliday ran a massive personal best of 6:22.96 in the 2000m S/C.
