This weekend there were many Thunderbirds competing in both the the BC High School Championships and the Harry Jerome Track Classic.
The BC High School Championships took place Thursday-Saturday and McLeod Park in Langley and full results can be found at www.bctfa.ca. Some highlights from the BC High School Championships were first places in the 400m for both Michael Aono in Senior boys section with 48.81, and Quinn Litherland in the Junior boys section with a personal best of 49.55. Aono also won the 200m in 21.38, and Litherland came second with 22.82 in the final, after running a personal best of 22.69 in the qualifying rounds. Congratulations to all who competed at the championships!
The Harry Jerome Track Classic took place on Monday evening at Swanguard stadium in Burnaby, with a host of world-class athletes competing. Thunderbird Michael Aono set a new Canadian record in the youth men's 400 meters in 46.79, Michael is now ranked 4th among open Canadian Men in the 400m. Stephen Abosi, who took 3rd in the men's national 200m and set a new personal best of 21.92. WAC athlete and Thunderbird Rohan Stewart won the men’s 200m in 21.51. Quinn Litherland ran a near personal best in the national 200m, following a full BC High school schedule. WAC athlete Dustin Walsh raced in the 200m in a time of 25.52. Christabel Nettey of WAC and Thunderbirds dominated in the women’s long jump with a leap of 6.86m. In the 1500m Rachel Cliff ran 4:16.22 and Erica Digby 4:18.85. We also had a Thunderbird team in the girls 11 year old 4x100m relay where they came first in 59.52.
