Big success for Thunderbirds at Harry Jerome and UW Indoor Meets

Harry Jerome - Feb 2nd: The Vancouver Thunderbirds on the strength of 47 participants invaded the Richmond Oval this past Saturday for the Harry Jerome Indoor meet.  There were a number of personal bests and highlights across all age groups.  Some of the highlights were:

Paul Fisher – Bantam Boys 600m in 1:46.93, meet record and Bantam Boys Outstanding performer

Matthew So – Open Men 600m, running with the University athletes, Matthew opened with a fast first 400m then blitzed the field with a sizzling final 200m.  His time of 1:25. 24 is a personal best.

Andrew de Visser was victorious in the Youth Boys 60m Hurdles. Other winners included Gabriela Aquilini (Midget Girls HJ), Sophie Pauls (Youth Girls HJ), Sophie Dodd (Youth Girls 600m), Max Trummer (Youth Boys 600m), Thomas Yang (Youth Boys SP) and the Youth 4 x 400m made up of Andrew de Visser, Ethan Strome, Max Trummer and Ahmad Nizamani.

Thunderbirds excel at UW Meet: A small group of Thunderbird athletes took part in the University of Washington Huskies indoor meets this past weekend in Seattle.

Rachel Cliff and Erica Digby both had personal best performances in the 3000m.  Rachel improved her best time by 2 seconds with a time of 9:18.63.  Erica had a massive improvement of 17 seconds running 9:28.29.

Youle Chen and Andrew de Visser lead the way in the jumping events with personal best performances.  Chen jumped 1.95m in the high jump with 3 solid attempts at 2.00m before bowing out of the competition.   De Visser jumping for the first time this season, soared through the air with a jump of 6.63m.  This placed him 3rd in a section filled with university aged athletes.  Ahmad Nizamani was just behind him at 6.45m, with a solid series of 5 jumps over 6.00 meters.

Matthew So and Max Trummer had strong performances in the 800m on Sunday.  So ran 1:57.99 in a hotly contested heat, while Trummer ran 2:00.27.  Amabel Stokes running her first race in 19 months ran the 400m in 59.14.  Sophie Dodd running the 400m had a solid effort in 1:00.04.
